Tom and the Suit...not that Suit, the Supes suit
I just have to get this off my chest. Tom was not shown in the suit in the Finale. Yes, there was a CGI of the suit but not a full body shot. He did not put on the suit although he did wear the top with the \S/ on his chest. Now, I would have loved to get that shot but given the MOS movie, I suspect WB put restrictions on what could and couldn't be done. In interviews, it was revealed that Peter Roth had a big hand in the Finale so I think that is a fair assumption that the WB had control on what they could and couldn't do as has been the case for the entire series.
Having said all that, it was never going to be enough and people would complain about how the suit was handled. They are complaining because Tom didn't wear the suit. If he had worn it, they would have said it looks ridiculous or he wasn't built enough, mostly because they want a Superman like the comics and no man really looks like that or they didn't like the design of the suit, etc, etc. They are complaining about the CGI but they expect CGI quality that one would get from a big budget movie and that was never going to happen on a tv show. This really was a no win situation IMO.
I also want to add, Tom did put the \S/ on his chest(really from S1 but for the last 3 season) and he did the classic shirt rip on the roof of the Daily Planet. If he didn't want to be Superman, he wouldn't have done any of that. Plus, Kelly Souders was quoted as saying Tom asked when would Clark Kent fade into the background and become Superman? He wanted that to happen. I find it so disrespectful that the man is being attacked when all he has done is give the last 10 years of his life to this show and the fans. Without him, there would be no Smallville and there would not have been the shirt rip and the classic Superman imagery. I am not saying they shouldn't be upset or feel that they were cheated by the use of CGI instead of the suit but don't jump to conclusions and start making things up and defiling Tom's character especially since the reason they decided to use CGI has not been released.
One final thought, fans have had lots of reasons to complain about Smallville and yes, I am looking primarily at the writing and I realize that not everyone is happy about the Finale and some of those reasons are valid especially for Lex and Tess fans but to attack one of the actors as if he had complete control over how it played out is out of line.
